Abstract:
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a treatment where a broad spectrum of light is applied to the skin in order to remove or lighten vascular-related dermatological conditions. Specially selected wavelengths shall penetrate the skin. Through selective photothermolysis, targets (such as haemoglobin and melanin) absorb the light and destroy the vessel or lesion, with minimal epidermal or dermal absorption. The damaged tissue is then removed by the body. IPL differs to dermatological lasers in that they emit a large spectrum of light while lasers emit a single wavelength. In this seminar, speaker will share the application of IPL in treating common Paediatric Dermatology conditions including brown pigmentation, age spots, broken blood vessel and rosacea. The performance, pros and cons of IPL shall be discussed and compared with laser therapy. Some clinical cases shall also be shared to enrich and better illustrate the technology merits.
